Helen Mirren delivered a dose of gothic romanticism for the New York premiere of A Talent for Murder on 21 October.
Posing on the red carpet at AMC Lincoln Square, the Oscar-winning actress, 81, proved bold fashion has no age limit in a cinched corset that accentuated her figure. Her vampy all-black look consisted of a long-sleeved top with structured shoulders and a drop-waist Black Swan-style tutu.
Tying the look together was the silhouette-enhancing corset, which hugged her hips in a defiant stance against the traditional fashion norms for women in their 80s.
Statement pearls in her necklace and earrings gave the outfit a modern edge, and pointed-toe heels elongated her legs to complete her glamorous look.
Helen Mirren's candid comments on ageing
Helen has long championed embracing every age as it comes, in a world where anti-ageing is at the forefront of everyone's minds.
She told Vogue: "It's much better to age disgracefully! Take it on the chin, and roll with it. You die young, or you get older. There is nothing in between! You may as well enjoy it."
Contrary to the opinion that each decade comes with more challenges and restrictions, Helen quipped to AARP The Magazine in 2015: "Your 40s are good. Your 50s are great. Your 60s are fab. And 70 is [expletive] awesome."
Helen's approach to red carpet dressing
Aside from her statement tutu on Wednesday night, Helen also recently turned heads on the red carpet for the series two premiere of MobLand, wearing a silver sparkly Jenny Packham gown with striking structured shoulder pads.
This follows Helen's ethos of making red carpet moments a theatrical performance.
"[A red carpet is] a performance. It is like going onstage, really, and I treat it as such. It's a sort of wonderful, fun, silly performance. It's not going to last forever. It has huge meaning for a second or two, and then the meaning is gone, and we're onto something else," she told People, adding that she now prioritises comfort as well as high-impact looks.
