Kanye West's new limited edition trainers aren't set to go on sale until Saturday, but there were already large queues of fans outside stores by Friday morning. Keen to get their hands on a pair of the black Yeezy Boost 350 Adidas shoes created by Kim Kardashian's husband, some have already been camping for days.

The release of the trainers, which Kanye wore to the CFDA awards earlier this year, has been highly anticipated by many ever since the shoes were first released in June and almost immediately sold out – many pairs were later re-sold on eBay for up to £400 despite their original £150 price tag.

There's no doubt that it has been a successful year for Kanye, who has been expanding his fashion empire. The 38-year-old received a lot of praise for the Adidas collection he unveiled at New York Fashion Week, with a star-studded front row including Kim and the couple's daughter North West, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Beyoncé and Jay Z.

The Through the Wire artist has since opened up about his career in fashion, revealing that he was feeling "very positive" about the welcome he had received in recent months.

"I feel very positive about the future," he told Paper magazine. "People are starting to recognise and just give me a chance to be looked at, respected and a part of the conversation.

"I really appreciate that my collection at New York Fashion Week was accepted positively. The moment I saw Alber Elbaz [Lanvin's designer], he patted me on the back and said, 'Keep going'. It's important to believe and it's equally important to pay your dues."

Kanye also admitted that, while he may have been catapulted to superstar status for his musical talents, conquering the world of fashion has always been at the forefront of his ambitions.

"Fashion is something that's in my heart to do – in my spirit," he revealed. "There's no world that can stop me from what I love. Not the rap world, not the fashion world, not the real world."
