New Year, new style? If you're looking to update your wardrobe in 2017 these are the key pieces to look out for according to Pinterest. The team has rounded up their predictions of the top ten fashion trends based on popular searches, pins and picks from influential pinners. Read on to see what made the cut…

Patches and custom denim

Searches for patches have risen by a huge 800 per cent on Pinterest, and for good reason. Iron on patches are an easy way to customise items and give your wardrobe staples an on-trend update. Give it a go at Levis, who have tapped into the popularity of customising denim by offering services including embroidery and patches in selected stores.

Bell sleeve tops

A trend that can already be spotted on the high street, bell sleeve tops are predicted to be a big hit in 2017.

Khaki

Whether it's a dress, top or trousers, khaki is a colour you'll want to incorporate into your wardrobe this year.

Pyjama dressing

Effortlessly cool and oh-so-comfy, pyjama dressing is a great option for both work and play. We love this ASOS piped stripe pyjama suit (£90) – just add heels and you're good to go.

Backless shoes

Chanel's heeled mules were a go-to among the style set throughout fashion month, and now they have inspired a new legion of high street styles for SS17.

Political t-shirts

Make a fashion statement like stars including Katy Perry and Kendall Jenner with a political t-shirt. Searches rose 360 per cent in the past few months, and with huge events including Brexit and the US Presidential Election, we can imagine why.

Multiple earrings

When it comes to jewellery, just one set of earrings isn't going to cut it. Experiment with magnetic and clip on styles to rock the multiple earrings look without the commitment (or the pain).

Eighties style

Retro '80s inspired fashion is back in a big way, as championed by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in this Saint Laurent number. Prints, puff shoulders and power dressing, it's all going on.

High necklines

According to Pinterest, we'll all be coveting high necklines on our tops and dresses this year. Cut out details and different textures offer an on-trend update.
