Rihanna's Pope-inspired headdress, Katy Perry's angel wings and Sara Jessica Parker's nativity hat may have dominated headlines at this year's Met Gala, but there is another celebrity dress that has everyone talking. A-list actress Scarlett Johansson wore a cherry red and white floral gown to the benefit gala and the designer behind the outfit is rather controversial. The stunning creation is by top label Marchesa, who until recently was spotted regularly on A-list stars.

Marchesa is co-owned by Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman, who is the ex-wife of disgraced Hollywood movie boss Harvey Weinstein. And that's why Scarlett's dress choice surprised onlookers – since allegations of Harvey's sexual misconduct emerged in 2017, many celebrities have shunned the label due to its connection to Harvey.

Scarlett, who worked with Weinstein on the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona, told Variety that she wore Marchesa in support of its female designers. She said: "I wore Marchesa because their clothes make women feel confident and beautiful and it is my pleasure to support a brand created by two incredibly talented and important female designers." Her reps also told the publication that she asked Marchesa to dress her for the Met Gala months before and the outfit was made especially for her.

Like many other Hollywood actresses, Scarlett has spoken out in support of the Time's Up campaign against sexual harassment in the work place. Several high profile stars including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow have been vocal in condemning the scandal.

Harvey and Georgina announced their separation in October after nearly ten years of marriage. The former couple share two children together, daughter India, seven, and son Dashiell, four.
