Bruce Paltrow, father of Academy Award winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, has died in Rome aged 58.
A spokesperson for Gwyneth confirmed that he died of complications due to pneumonia. The producer apparently fell ill while on holiday in Italy with his daughter, who was celebrating her 30th birthday.
The actress’ close relationship with her parents has been well documented – it would be hard to forget her emotional 1999 Oscar acceptance speech in which she dedicated the award to her mother, father, and grandfather Arnold “Buster” Paltrow, who passed away soon after her win. “They mean everything to me,” she said after the awards ceremony. “They're very loving, supportive people, and I know I wouldn’t be anywhere without them.”
The Brooklyn-born filmmaker, who also produced US TV series St Elsewhere, had battled throat cancer while directing Gwyneth in the 2000 film Duets.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
