Green Card star Gerard Depardieu's actor son Guillaume made headlines in June when injuries stemming from a 1996 motorcycle crash led him to have his right leg amputated.
And now the 32-year-old is once again in the spotlight, after an alleged altercation with a fan near the resort town of Deauville on Friday landed him in hot water with police.
Guillaume was formally placed under investigation by local authorities after reportedly firing shots from a gun during the dispute.
However, the young actor has firmly denied the accusations, telling Agence France Presse he acted in self-defence and that the pistol did not contain real bullets. "I just fired a shot in the air after being violently attacked by five people in the street," he said.
Adding that his prosthetic leg had been damaged during the incident, he also said he planned to file a counter-complaint. "I was alone and I am handicapped," he was quoted as saying, "and no-one did anything for me."
The actor, who appeared in the film Tous Les Matins Du Monde with his famous father, must return to court on September 9 to face the accusations, which include threats, armed violence and possessing an illegal weapon.
