Movie hardman Kurt Russell got some glamorous support from his loved ones when he attended the premiere of his new film Miracle in Los Angeles. The actor's long-time partner Goldie Hawn accompanied him to the screening, along with her daughter Kate Hudson and son-in-law Chris Robinson.

Kurt is well-known as a family man and Kate, who has recently become a parent herself, says she still calls him "dad". In the flick the 53-year-old took on a much tougher persona for his role as an ice hockey coach, however.

The film tells the true story of Herb Brooks, who led the US team to victory over a seemingly invincible Russian squad in the 1980 Olympics. Known for his gruff personality, Herb became a national hero after turning a rag-tag group of college athletes into a champion team.

In order to add authenticity to his coaching role in his relation with other actors, Kurt decided to take on some churlish characteristics. "I figured that the best thing to do was to not involve myself with them at all," he revealed. "That turned out to be very, very right. Their reaction was exactly correct. They were looking at each other like, 'What's he about? Who is he? What's his deal?'."

The formula certainly seems to have worked, because critics are hailing the star's performance as the best of his career.
