Toni Collette is used to playing motherly figures in her movies, so it was no surprise to witness her warm rapport with her latest young co-star Rory Culkin at the premiere of their flick The Night Listener.
The tanned Sydney-born star, gorgeous in a flattering brown halter-neck dress, smiled broadly as she joked with Rory - who had showed up for the New York screening sporting a more laid-back, teen style.
In the psychological thriller a radio show host, played by Robin Williams, develops a phone relationship with Rory's character who has been rescued from a life of abuse by Toni Colette's social worker figure. But, as with Toni's other film The Sixth Sense, nothing is quite as it seems.
Rory, the youngest of seven children in the famous Culkin clan, is further establishing his acting career with the dark flick. Now 17, the teenager first got his break playing younger versions of his older brothers Maculay and Kieran in Richie Rich and Igby Goes Down. Meanwhile, it's a busy summer for the 33-year-old Aussie actress who is also promoting Little Miss Sunshine and has three more films in the pipeline.
Tuesday was a big day for premieres in the Big Apple as Oliver Stone screened his movie World Trade Center starring Nicholas Cage and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Singer and actress Courtney Love was one of a select group of guests invited for the private screening of the emotionally charged film. And in a move away from some of her more outlandish outfits, the punk rocker stepped out in a black designer cocktail dress and elegant peep-toe.
The Night Listener hits cinemas in the UK on September 15 and the US on August 4, while World Trade Center is due out on September 29 in the UK and August 9 in the US.
