Robert Downey Jr is world's highest paid actor – again

Robert Downey Jr has been named the world's highest paid actor for the third year in a row by Forbes magazine. The 50-year-old star took home $80million (£51million) last year, beating fellow Hollywood heavyweights including Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Bradley Cooper.

Although Robert only appeared in two films between June 2014 to June 2015 – The Judge and Avengers: Age of Ultron – his star power helped ensure that both were big box office hits, with Avengers: Age of Ultron taking $1.4billion worldwide. Robert is also reportedly commanding a huge $40million for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.

Taking the second spot on the Forbes list is Jackie Chan, with $50million, followed by Vin Diesel ($47million), Bradley Cooper ($41.5million), who produced and starred in American Sniper, and Adam Sandler ($41million), who this year signed on to make four films exclusively for Netflix.

Notably, four of the top ten wealthiest male film stars now hail from outside Hollywood. Along with China's Jackie, Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar all finished ahead of big American actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp and Mark Wahlberg.

The 34 actors making up Forbes' 2015 list earned a combined $941million in the last 12 months.
