Coronation Street's Carla Connor will be left fighting for her life next week after a burglary at the Bistro goes wrong. In explosive scenes due to air on Monday, Carla – played by Alison King - gets caught up in the robbery after meeting up with Robert to discuss their secret one night stand, which she bitterly regrets.

Unaware that Carla's nemesis Tracy is hiding in the kitchen and has heard everything, Robert leaves the Bistro. However two thugs soon enter the restaurant with the intention of robbery, and instead of coming to Carla's aid, Tracy leaves her to her fate.

When the thieves steal her handbag Carla gives chase, but she ends up being dragged along the street by their getaway car and left unconscious, with no idea that Tracy could soon reveal the details of her secret fling to her fiancé Nick.

The dramatic scenes will lead to Carla's exit from the show in the coming weeks. The actress was recently named among a number of stars confirmed to be taking a break from the ITV soap, but she has since revealed that she is actually leaving permanently.

"It's not actually a break – I'm actually leaving," Alison told Metro. "Because they're leaving the door open, I think people originally called it a break and people are asking 'When are you coming back?' and I'm like, 'I'm not'."

She added: "I was meant to give myself four years at the most and I've done an amazing ten years, but it's knackering. I need to creatively be a few other people now and see my daughter a bit more."

Other characters set to take a break from the show include Oliver Farnworth, who plays Andy, along with Les Dennis (Michael), Brooke Vincent (Sophie), Eileen Derbyshire (Emily) and David Neilson (Roy). Ryan Thomas will also leave the soap after 15 years playing builder Jason Grimshaw.
