TODAY announced a familiar face as the new co-anchor of the Saturday edition of the morning show – Carson Daly.
The 53-year-old has expanded his role and, in an unexpected move, will now work six days a week, joining co-anchor Laura Jarrett, feature anchor Joe Fryer and meteorologist Angie Lassman on Saturday TODAY.
"I'm thrilled to add Saturday TODAY to my weekday morning schedule," Carson shared in a statement on Thursday, November 5. "My kids asked if I'll still make pancakes. I told them yes, but I'll be making them for Laura, Joe and Angie instead."
He added: "I'm equal parts grateful and excited for this opportunity."
The announcement comes after Carson temporarily stepped in as co-host of Saturday TODAY in September following Peter Alexander's move to MS NOW in March.
Carson will still be part of TODAY's regular weekday broadcasts.
"I should just say, I've been very lucky to have a lot of TV gigs, but this one's really special," he said on TODAY after the announcement.
"At my age and at my stage of my career, to have an opportunity to come in and sit next to Laura and to learn and to get better at my job to be the best broadcaster that I can, it's not something I take lightly."
He added: "We're going to have a lot of fun on Saturday. But most importantly, the best part about the gig, like here during the week — which I'll still be here during the week — is getting to go to your place of employment with such high-quality human beings.
"We are a family, and the fact that I get to spend one more day in this building, six days a week, is an absolute honor."
Carson's TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie had nothing but kind words to say about Carson's new gig.
"I want to say Carson, you know how much I love you, you're like a brother to me," she said. "I always say to anyone who will listen that Carson is like salt and pepper on a meal. He makes everything taste better. He makes every segment he's in pop. You bring so much love and light, and I am so happy."
Libby Leist, Executive Vice President of TODAY and Lifestyle, said in a statement: "Carson has been an integral part of the TODAY family for the past 13 years, and we are thrilled that our viewers get to spend one more day of the week with him.
"Carson and Laura make a great team, and we can't wait for this fresh new chapter of Saturday TODAY."
In honor of Carson's new role and his ancestral roots, he and his co-anchors toasted with a Guinness. "Oh, by the way, Saturday (TODAY) is now broadcasting from Ireland," he joked on the show on Thursday.
"We're going to have so much fun," Laura added.
Carson will make his official Saturday TODAY debut on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
