Al Roker couldn't believe the bizarre personal milestone he recorded live on the Today Show on Friday.

The weather host surprised his co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie as he revealed that the hot weather in New York had led to him bringing out a summer suit for the first time ever in April.

To introduce this development to his audience, the well-loved weather host questioned Hoda and Savannah following the regional weather forecast. "How warm is it?" he asked them expectantly.

Hoda returned the question, clearly noticing that Al wanted to make some kind of announcement.

Answering his own question, the 68-year-old then revealed: "This is the first time I've ever broken out seersucker in April," before gesturing to the bright blue and white striped suit that he was wearing in the studio.

"Wow!" Savannah said in reply, before adding "it's seersucker season" in relation to the record high temperatures parts of the north of the US have been experiencing; in NYC, for example, temperatures soared to the high 80s on Friday.

"It's warm baby," Hoda agreed, before Al chimed in again.

"Yeah... we've started it off officially!" Fittingly, even though the first day of summer is two months away, the show later featured a segment about early summer fashion trends.

Hoda and Savannah also kicked off Friday morning's show with a reference to the warm weather, with Savannah saying "it's a hot one already" despite the fact it was only seven in the morning.

Later on the show, hosts made further reference to the unseasonably warm weather that the US has been experiencing this week. However, this time they turned their attention to the dangerous flash flooding which has hit areas on the southeastern coast of Florida.

Al also warned that the warm weather in the north was unlikely to last, suggesting there would be colder temperatures and possibly even snow in some areas such as Milwaukee by Sunday.

It's been an exciting couple days for the NBC meteorologist, who recently returned from a quick stopover at Washington DC on Easter Monday.

After spending the weekend leading up to the holiday with his wife Deborah Roberts and son Nick, who was visiting from college, Al jetted off to the White House to represent Today at its famous Easter Egg Roll party.
