It's great news for thriller fans as Sky's high-stakes crime series, Prisoner, is returning for a second season.
The thriller, created and written by Academy Award and BAFTA‑nominated writer Matt Charman (Hostage, Bridge of Spies), stars Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point) as a prison officer who finds herself in grave danger after transporting a dangerous inmate to court.
Izuka is set to reprise her role as Amber Todd in season two, with production set to begin later this year.
Who doesn't love a high-tension, action-packed police drama? For fans missing Line of Duty, this fast-paced, nail-biting thriller could just be the perfect show to fill your viewing schedule while you wait for the new season. If you haven't yet tuned into season one, now is the time!
But before you do, keep reading to find out all we know about season two…
What is Prisoner about?
The series follows prison transport officer Amber Todd, who, after returning from maternity leave, is tasked with escorting a dangerous prisoner, Tibor, to court to testify against his elite crime syndicate.
But when their convoy is ambushed, the pair are handcuffed together and Amber is forced to put her life in his hands.
What to expect from season two
Season two expands the tense, morally complex world of Prisoner, with Amber back in uniform – but not back to normal, according to the synopsis.
It continues: "Still carrying the scars of past events, and struggling to hold her family together, she is tasked with escorting a polarising US academic – turned notorious killer– for extradition, a woman whose case has divided opinion.
"When there is an attempted execution from within law enforcement, Amber is framed for murder – challenging everything she stands for."
Matt Charman returns as creator and writer and is joined by writer Sophie Petzal, who created the tense thrillers Hollington Drive and Blood.
What have viewers said about Prisoner?
The series has been hailed as "incredible," with many binge-watching the series in one day.
One viewer wrote on social media: "What a series #Prisoner is on Sky. Fully binged all day," while another added: "This Sky original TV show is a no nonsense version of The Hitman's Bodyguard. It has action, grit and intrigue. 6 episodes of pure action and adventure."
A third viewer penned: "Binged in a day! Cracking work."
When will Prisoner season two be released?
It's a little too early for a release date, with production set to begin later this year. However, we'd speculate that a 2027 return is likely.
In the meantime, all episodes of season one are available to stream on Sky and streaming service NOW.
