The secrets behind Christina Aguilera's fresh new look

She has always favoured Hollywood glamour. But Christina Aguilera seems to have toned down the look of late, opting for more soft and subtle. The 31-year-old debuted her new style on The Voice in the US, taking to her judging chair with wavy blonde tresses and a marigold Roland Mouret frock.

On her website, Christina explained that the “glam look all revolved around the colour of my dress. “I thought it was fresh and bright and I wanted to be sure my hair and makeup complemented the colour, rather than clashed with it.” And her make-up artist Jake Bailey went on to describe how he gave the singer “a bronze smoky eye, big lashes, tawny cheeks and a rosy lip glow.” He used black liquid CoverGirl to line her eyes and applied a bronze MAC eyeshadow on her lids. "I then used a strip of false lashes from Ardell called 'Wispies' and coated them with DiorShow mascara." Hair stylist Mark Townsend also worked to accentuate her dress.

“I loved the color and silhouette so much,” he wrote. “It was such a great fashion moment with a touch of sexiness, so I wanted her hair to have the same feeling.” After spraying her damp blonde locks with Sally Hershberger Super Keratin Spray, he dried it with a large round brush, then spritzed 4-in. sections of hair with Dove Style+Care Flexible Hold Hairspray and curled with a curling iron. To finish, Mark rubbed Malin+Goetz Hair Pomade through her hair, “for separation and piecey-ness.”
