Congratulations to Nick Carter and his wife Lauren! The couple have welcomed their first child – a son named Odin Reign Carter. Entertainment Reports revealed the news, adding that the baby was born on Tuesday 19 April.

According to the report, little Odin arrived after 30 hours of labour during a water birth at home.

Nick and Lauren had already chosen their son's name, but kept it a secret until now. Odin is a widely revered god in German mythology.

"It's a very strong name," the former Backstreet Boys singer said. "We can't say the name yet. I've been instructed by my wife to keep it under wraps, but we have a name."

Fatherhood is a new role that Nick is happily embracing. He explained: "I don't want to get all sappy, [but] she's the reason I felt comfortable, and I knew that she would be the perfect mother. She would be able to help me teach our child all the things that he needs to learn."

Lauren gave birth at 40 weeks pregnant. The pretty brunette shared a selfie over the weekend, showcasing her very large bump. She wrote that she was "patiently waiting" for her little boy to arrive.

A few days earlier Lauren had posted another photo, this time captioning it: "39 weeks... ready when you are baby boy."

The couple found out their baby's gender live on air on Dancing with the Stars in November. The revelation came after Nick scored a perfect 30 points for his contemporary dance with professional partner Sharna Burgess.

The celebrations continued backstage as Nick and Lauren opened a giant box that released dozens of blue balloons.

This is the first child for the lovebirds, who married in 2014. Nick and Lauren tied the knot at the Bacara resort in Santa Barbara, California.
