Slowly but surely, the temperature is creeping upwards and we've got balmy summer afternoons on the brain.

Whether you're jetting off to a glamorous exotic location for your summer holiday now or staging a stylish staycation moment, now is the time to get ahead and perfect your summer wardrobe for any occasion.

Ahead of the new season, a good place to look for upcoming trends is the SS24 runways, or even scouring your favourite influencers or TV shows for inspo. We’re still reeling from The White Lotus a year later.

As well as trends, there are core pieces that you’ll have in your wardrobe that you’ll reach for year after year. Whether it’s a crochet dress, a timeless denim number or even down to accessories like a raffia bag or statement sandals, we’ve got you covered.

This season, thanks to Chloé’s runway, the boho trend is having a resurgence: think crochet, raffia and gladiator sandals. However, if you’re more of a The Row kind of girl, opt for plainer styles and muted tones for a quiet luxury feel.

Hello! Fashion shares the summer outfit ideas you need to add to cart:

The Co-ord

A co-ord is a failsafe outfit for an instantly put together look. Opt for a matching shirt and shorts that’s easy to throw on over a bikini, or this Agua by Agua Bendita set for a more dressed-up feel. If it’s got a print, stick to plainer accessories to keep all eyes on your outfit.

Agua by Agua Bendita Urucú floral-embroidery top, £634, Farfetch; Agua by Agua Bendita Piñon Tinaja wide-leg trousers, £1,014, Farfetch; Cat-Eye Sunglasses, £27, & Other Stories; Hereu Calella raffia tote, £450, Harvey Nichols

The Swimsuit

If you’re jetting off on a summer holiday this year, go all out with your swimwear. We love this printed, cut-out Zimmermann piece - it’s so flattering for any silhouette and a staple investment piece that will last you for years to come. Pull colours out of it for your accessories to tie it altogether.

Junie Lace Up Cutout Swimsuit, £295, Zimmermann; Totême Pinstripe Cotton Sarong, £260, Harvey Nichols; Bon Bon Natural Raffia Fringe Bucket Bag, £1,650, Jimmy Choo; Loupe Smart Slider Sandals, £95, Dune London; Heart Station Chain Necklace, £98, Monica Vinader

The Top

Keep your top the focal point of your look - the brighter and bolder the better. Think eclectic prints, vivid hues or a quirky shape. Style it with a plainer bottom and lowkey accessories to keep focus on the top.

Missoni Striped Crochet-Knit Halterneck Top, £400, Net-A-Porter; Denim Skirt, £79, The White Company; Hot Pink Gradient Mini Bou Bag, £295, Ganni; Cream Woven Gladiator Flat Sandals, £38, River Island; Statement Interlocking Earrings, £28, Orelia

The Sunglasses

Sunglasses are an essential for summer and can instantly elevate any look. Opt for a neutral coloured pair so you can style with any outfit and it will be the hardest working accessory in your wardrobe.

Dôen Ischia Shirred Cotton-Blend Voile Midi Dress, £369, Net-A-Porter; Loewe Eyewear Screen Sqaure-Frame Acetate Sunglasses, £310, Net-A-Porter; Leather Studded Sandals, £99, Mint Velvet; Rattan Double Handle Bag, £59.99, Mango; Round Gemstone Stacker Ring, £78, Mejuri

The Dress

The ultimate piece in any summer wardrobe. For a standout statement, invest in a more out-there style, whether it’s a print or a shape you wouldn’t usually go for, or keep it simple and go for a classic white dress. We love the pattern and silhouette of this Sea New York number - you’ll be reaching for it for years to come.

Sea New York Charlough- Embroidered Midi Dress, £495, Farfetch; Novi Tote, £210, Wicker Wings; Flat Slider Sandals With Woven Straps, £99.95, Massimo Dutti; Molten Large Gold Hoops, £95, Astrid & Miyu; Hypnosis Ivory Female Cat-Eye Sunglasses, £51.40, Le Specs

The Sunhat

Accessories are a key player for a holiday - they can uplift the simplest of outfits. A sunhat is not only stylish, but also practical. We love the scallop trim and ribbon detailing on this one.

One Shoulder Cotton Dress, £95, Albaray; Scalloped Sun Hat, £129, Simply Beach; Sian Leather Sandals, £149, AllSaints; Chloé Pilot-Frame Metal Sunglasses, £355, Selfridges; Beaded Chandelier Earrings, £12, Accessorize

The Denim

Denim has made it’s comeback on the SS24 runways, spotted at the likes of David Koma and Sacai. We are here for the revival of the denim dress, its such a versatile piece and is a quick way for an instantly put together look.

Veronica Beard Mauli Denim Mini Dress, £239, The Outnet; Buckled Leather Sandals, £69.99, Zara; Valentino Garavani Scoobie Gold-Tone Earrings, £480, Net-A-Porter; Nova Round Sunglasses, £399, Linda Farrow; Vivienne Westwood Hilma Orb-Logo Silk-Satin Scrunchie, £85, Selfridges

The Bikini

Swimsuit season is upon us and we can’t wait to be sat on a beach, bikini on and cocktail in hand. Heidi Klein is one of our swimwear go-tos - with a style for everyone and an array of colours and prints, we’re a big fan. Throw a thin dress on over the top for a quick cover-up.

Cape Town Structured Cup Bikini, £270, Heidi Klein; Frame Crocheted Organic Cotton and Silk-Blend Mini Dress, £485, Net-A-Porter; Lack of Colour Paloma Straw Sun Hat, £125, Harvey Nichols; Slides Dark Brown, £21.99, H&M; Hera Oversized Dome Ridge Stud Earrings, £139, Missoma

The Crochet

Hugely popular in the 70s, crochet has made its comeback and we don’t anticipate it going anywhere anytime soon. A crochet dress or matching co-ord is a head-to-toe instant outfit -  just add some sandals and sunnies and you’re good to go.

Remain Birger Christensen Katiana Leather-Trimmed Striped Crochet-Knit Maxi Dress, £123, The Outnet; Ceramic and Raffia Flower Earrings, £85, Bimba y Lola; Georgiana Raffia Bow Clutch, £550, Anya Hindmarch; Bottege Veneta Rectangular-Frame Acetate Sunglasses, £350, Selfridges; Mollie Twist Front Sandal, £179, £72.25, Whistles

The Shorts

For SS24, short shorts are having a resurgence, spotted at the likes of Gucci, Isabel Marant and Max Mara. The no-trousers trend has been around for a few seasons now and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Vintage High-Rise Shorts, £190, Agolde; Rib Tank Top, £17, Arket; Anine Bing Jeremy Brand-Embroidered Cotton-Twill Cap, £50, Selfridges; New Balance 327 Trainers, £110, Schuh; The Boyfriend Shirt, £120, With Nothing Underneath

How we chose:

  • Style: Less of a trend and more of a classic, broderie anglaise has a certain timeless quality. Our selections vary in design but they are united by the fact that they have a certain lasting appeal and can be styled in multiple ways.
  • Price: Variety is key, and therefore alongside pieces by some of our favourite designer labels, we've included some stylish picks from the high street if you're looking to save.
  • Quality: Many of our picks are created from airy, durable cotton. The intricacy of the technique means that some picks are dry clean only, to preserve the quality of the garment.
