With less than six months to go before their wedding, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of Holland and his Argentinian bride-to-be, Maxima Zorreguieta, have embarked on a gruelling tour of the Netherlands. The couple set off on Tuesday and made their first stop in the province of north Brabant. From there, they will continue their journey by boat and car. The tour is scheduled to end on October 25.
Her handsome fiancé at her side, 34-year-old Maxima, wearing a red suit, was greeted with applause by thousands of people as she stopped off in the cities of Breda, Tilburg, Den Bosch and Eindhoven.
This is the first time in the history of the Netherlands that a future queen is not of royal blood and hails from the other side of the world. Like the recent Norwegian royal nuptials, Willem-Alexander and Maxima’s romance has all the ingredients to become the latest European royal fairytale. A young, well-educated Latin woman born in a developing-world country captivates a wealthy crown prince, who takes her to be his bride.
Willem and Maxima will tie the knot on February 2, 2002.
