The Princess of Wales hosted her first garden party of the year this month alongside her husband, Prince William – and one moment in particular impressed royal fans.

Kate, 44, wore a stunning Self Portrait dress and a matching black-and-white hat paired with her go-to Ralph Lauren stiletto heels at Buckingham Palace in London.

The royal couple was animated as they chatted with guests, and the Princess effortlessly walked between conversations despite wearing high heels on muddy grass.

To the amazement of royal watchers and attendees at the event, Kate didn't sink into the grass and appeared to "glide" across the Palace lawn.

In astonishment, one person wrote: "Walking on grass in stilettos is not for the weak… but Princess Catherine makes it look effortless."

Another noted: "She does make it look like she is gliding. Such a classy woman." A third said: "It can be done, but takes practice. Catherine is a master of it."

Rushing to the comments with theories, one person said the royal was "walking on the balls of her feet", while others suspected she must have transparent "heel stoppers" to stop herself from sinking into the grass.

Kate and William were accompanied by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Zara Tindall for the occasion.

Kate's skills in heels

It's not the first time that the Princess has wowed with her ability to master walking in heels. In fact, in January, she was spotted running in her heeled navy boots from Gianvito Rossi for a speedy detour on a royal engagement.

The mother-of-three appeared to run past her security to greet royal fans on a trip to Scotland with Prince William, made very impressive by the fact she was wearing heels at the time.

The Princess is known for her enviable collection of shoes, featuring names such as Chanel and Jimmy Choo, and is rarely seen without a pair of heels.

She even wore heels after giving birth to Prince Louis in 2018, and didn't take them off to play football, hockey and volleyball on royal outings.

In October, she unexpectedly went viral on social media after climbing down narrow stairs backwards at an army base while wearing four-inch stilettos.

A royal week to remember

The garden party paid tribute to those affiliated with the patronages, military affiliations and personal projects of the royal couple.

Among the guests invited to the Palace were Rhian Mannings, the founder of 2wish, which supports bereaved families and Sam Stables, the founder of We Are Farming Minds, a charity that works to address the stigmas around mental health in the farming community.

The Princess of Wales also made a two-day visit to Reggio Emilia in Italy last week for her work on early childhood, marking her first return to international trips abroad since her cancer diagnosis in 2024.
