The royal family might present a perfectly proper and polished front while on state visits or attending local events, but at the end of the day they're made of flesh and blood just like the rest of us. From sporting incidents to health checks and corrective surgery, the royals have some subtle physical features that they often keep covered.

Princess Kate is famous for her shiny brunette locks, but eagle-eyed fans spotted a hidden three-inch scar running along her temple.

Following speculation in 2011 around the injury, a spokesperson for St James's Palace told the press: 'The scar is related to a childhood operation'.

Like his wife Princess Kate, Prince William has a tiny scar on his forehead. He revealed on Newsround: "I got hit by a golf club when I was playing golf with a friend of mine. We were on a putting green and the next thing you know there was a seven-iron and it came out of nowhere and it hit me in the head."

The incident occurred in 1991 when William was just eight years old. The young prince was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries. He also reflected on how visible the injury is today, adding: "It glows sometimes and some people notice it - other times they don't notice it at all."

The royals are well-known for their love of sport and don't hold back on getting involved. Unfortunately, no polo match is without its risks and the then-Prince Charles had to undergo surgery.

In 1990, the 41-year-old heir went under a three-hour operation to fix a broken elbow he had sustained during a polo match.

Princess Eugenie's corrective surgery

Princess Eugenie decided to make a statement using a long scar that reaches down her spine, the result of scoliosis surgery when she was 12 to correct severe curvature of her spine.

In October 2018, she married Jack Brooksbank in a gown designed to show her scar as a message of empowerment.
