There's one less eligible prince in Europe! Prince Mirko of Panagyurishte is engaged to Dr. Marta Embid. The prince, who is also a doctor known as Dr. Mirko Saxe-Coburg, will marry Marta next year, according to HELLO!'s sister brand HOLA! Spain.
While a date has not been set, sources told HOLA! that the wedding is expected to take place in June, and in the very city where the couple's love story began: Madrid.
Prince Mirko, the eldest son of Prince Kubrat of Bulgaria and Doña Carla María de la Soledad Royo-Villanova y Urrestarazu, has been with his fiancée since 2023. The engaged pair are said to have met at Madrid's San Carlos Clinical Hospital during their medical training.
Mirko is the grandson of Bulgaria's last Tsar, Simeon II. His grandfather reigned from 1943 until 1946, when the monarchy in Bulgaria was abolished.

While a prince, Mirko followed in his father's footsteps, pursuing a career in medicine. Prince Kubrat, the third son of King Simeon II and Queen Margarita of Bulgaria, is a general and digestive system surgeon. Mirko once said of his father, Dr. Saxe-Coburg: "He taught me to work tirelessly and never stop taking care of my family and friends."

The prince and his future wife met at Madrid's San Carlos Clinical Hospital, where they both underwent their five-year training as doctors.
Marta specializes in Anesthesia and Reanimation, while Mirko specializes in General and Digestive Surgery at Hospital Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Hospital Universitario Vithas Madrid Arturo Soria. The prince holds a degree in medicine from the University of Navarra, as well as a surgical diploma.

The ceremony was also attended by Spain's former king, Juan Carlos I, as well as Queen Sofía, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina.

Mirko is the latest member of a royal family to get engaged this summer. Princess Margaret's grandson Samuel Chatto announced in mid-July that he had proposed to his girlfriend Eleanor Ekserdjian. Sam, a ceramic artist, popped the question with a porcelain ring he made. King Charles was informed and was said to be very happy for the couple, who are planning to wed next spring.
