Meghan Markle pays quiet tribute to Dolly Parton after fan backlash

The Duchess of Sussex has shared a subtle tribute to the late Dolly Parton in her recent Instagram post - and it almost went under the radar

The Duchess of Sussex broke her social media silence on Thursday with a tribute to her late friend Gloria Steinem while subtly honouring the late Dolly Parton in the same post.

Meghan shared a series of photos of herself with her dear friend Gloria, as well as a photograph of a framed picture with her son Prince Archie alongside Gloria. But it was the track that the royal chose to overlay the images that was of significant importance - it was Dolly Parton's song 'Just Because I'm a Woman'.

This tribute comes after Meghan received backlash last week when a promotional post went live on her As Ever account on the day news of Dolly Parton's death broke. However, many others have pointed out that this post would have been scheduled ahead of time and the seemingly insensitive timing is mere coincidence.

The main reason for Meghan's social media post was to pay tribute to her friend Gloria with a very heartfelt message, sharing stories of them both behind-the-scenes. The post started: "Celebrating the life and legacy of my friend and mentor, Gloria Steinem, and also grateful to know that in these last few weeks and days she knew exactly how loved and admired she was," and concluded with: "Rest in peace, and rest in pride. Look at what you’ve done for all of us. Thank you."

Within the post, a young Prince Archie could be seen by the side of Gloria - a never-before-seen look at the youngster when he was around age two.

One thing that Meghan is staying tight-lipped on, though, is her whereabouts in the UK. The family arrived over a week ago, and they have not been spotted since. There are swirling rumours about them wanting to settle in the Cotswolds to give their children an idyllic countryside lifestyle, but nothing has yet been confirmed.

Prince Harry has made clear that security is of utmost importance for himself and his family, and he spoke about their collective safety at length during his High Court appeals.

Speaking about Harry's security quandary, HELLO!'s royal editor, Emily Nash, tells HELLO's A Right Royal Podcast: "Well, there's a bit of a three-way silence on this particular angle of the story. And as we know, Harry said as recently as last year, he couldn't see a world in which he would bring Meghan and the children back to the UK because he feared for their lives. You know, he was really talking about it in such stark terms."

She then concluded: "Obviously some kind of arrangement is now in place that they are satisfied with, and that has meant they are happy to move back here."
