Prince William "wasn't prepared" to let the comments made by Prince Harry about his wife slide, according to a royal author.

The Prince of Wales "could take" comments being made about himself, but it was another story when it came to Princess Kate, claims Robert Jobson, author of The Windsor Legacy

In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry described Kate as "the sister I'd always wanted" – but later detailed moments of tension, especially after the Prince met his future wife, Meghan Markle, and they began dating in 2016.

When asked if William would ever be able to "forgive Harry" now that he's back on British soil, Robert told HELLO!: "I don't think that went down too well.

"I think he could take a lot of things being said about him, but he wasn't prepared to have things said about her when she's not in a position to answer back."

What has Prince Harry said about Kate publicly?

It's believed William, 44, and Harry, 41, have not been in contact for the past two years following bombshell comments made by the Duke in his Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, and in his memoir.

Harry claimed that Meghan was left "sobbing" on the floor after a dispute over Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress, which led Kate to apologise.

Meghan also told Kate that she had "baby brain" following the birth of Prince Louis, which upset the royal, according to Harry.

Harry wrote: "Kate’s eyes widened: Yes. You talked about my hormones. We're not close enough for you to talk about my hormones! Meg's eyes got wide too. She looked genuinely confused. I'm sorry I talked about your hormones. That's just how I talk with my girlfriends."

The Duke also said the two women had a "clash of styles" when Meghan asked to borrow Kate's lip gloss.

He wrote: "Small clash of styles, maybe? Something we should’ve been able to laugh about soon after. But it left a little mark."

In an interview with ITV to promote his book, Tom Bradby asked if Kate and William didn't get on "almost from the get-go", to which Harry replied: "Yeah, fair."

Prince William and Kate 'not getting involved' with Harry and Meghan's return

Prince Harry and Meghan's return to the UK last week means that the Waleses and the Sussexes will be "conflicting households on the same patch", according to Robert.

Harry and Meghan will not be returning as working royals and will be living outside of London.

However, they will still be operating their projects in much greater proximity to William and Kate than before, when they were based more than 5,000 miles away in Montecito, California.

However, royal expert Robert added: "I think they're going to rise above all this. I don't think they're going to be involved in a tit-for-tat."

He continued: "I don't think that, because Harry and Meghan are here making a bit of noise, that's going to necessarily make them do anything.

"I think that they'll probably think, well, we've been down this road before; It creates a circus, and we're not going to get involved."
