He may be the British monarch, but even King Charles is not immune to fears of phantom spirits from another realm.

According to paranormal historian Richard Felix, His Majesty was previously left "terrified" after his encounter with a ghost.

The King got spooked while at Sandringham

Appearing on HELLO!'s Right Royal Podcast, Richard explained that before becoming King, Charles was spooked during a visit to Sandringham.

"Prince Charles was apparently terrified at Sandringham when he was again in the library at Sandringham; he and a footman were in there and followed around the library by a ghost!" he said.

But Richard explained that Charles' worries were not unfounded, as he said that Buckingham Palace is reportedly haunted by a monk, which he "isn't too happy about."

"Again, it's haunted by the ghost of a monk… basically, Buckingham Palace was actually built on a site that belonged to the monks of Westminster Abbey. This monk- we don’t know what happened to him -  but he's seen with a cowl, in other words, his hood, wandering through the halls of Buckingham Palace."

Queen Camilla's ghostly woes

Although the King hasn’t spoken publicly about whether he believes in ghosts or not, his wife, Queen Camilla, once revealed that she refused to go into Dumfries House while Charles was renovating it.

Speaking in a documentary, she explained: "I remember the first time I walked up the steps, got into the hall, and I thought, 'I can't go any further.' I literally froze. If my hair could stand on end, it would have done. I remember leaving and thinking I don't want to come back here again and I didn't for a few years."

Do the royal family celebrate Halloween?

The Princess of Wales took her brood of three, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, trick-or-treating in 2022.

Jay Rutland, husband of Tamara Ecclestone, who lives close to William and Kate's former London residence, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, shared in January 2023: "Kate knocked on our door in London with their kids on Halloween. 'Trick or Treating'. Very friendly and down-to-earth."

He also shared a photo which showed the trio at the large black gates of the Rutland-Ecclestone abode. Prince Louis, then four, could be seen eagerly grabbing the gates with both fists next to his sister, Charlotte, then seven, Prince George, then 11, stood behind his siblings next to Kate, who was beaming from ear to ear.

In 2024, Kate was also seen buying Halloween costumes for her children at Sainsbury's in Amner, Norfolk. Fellow shopper Kathy Whittaker, who spotted the Princess in the King's Lynn branch back in 2019, told The Mirror at the time: "She was with Charlotte and George looking at Halloween outfits, but her bodyguard was kind of watching people with phones and telling them no pictures. I managed to get the photo as she was at the self-service checkout.

"I didn't see what she actually bought. The lady that told me she was there had children with her and she said Kate was asking her children what they were going to be for Halloween. I think she bought some Halloween bits for her kids, but I don't know what."
