Summer's still sizzling at Spanish fashion week

While holidays are just a memory for many these days as autumn approaches, it's a different story in Spain, where some of the hottest summer fashions hit the catwalk last week.

Barcelona Fashion Week, known as La Pasarela Gaudi, gave future beachcombers and holidaymakers a sneak peek at what to look out for in 2004. A parade of sun-kissed beauties strutted down the catwalks, showing off the sexy spring-summer collections from some of Spain's hottest designers.

And it seems there will something to suit every taste next year, with colourful "trikinis" – creations which give the illusion of a one-piece while retaining the skin-revealing qualities of a bikini – among the many options.

The sporty themes seen in many of autumn's ready-to-wear collections continue, with designer Vives Vidal sending one model down the runway wearing an athletic-inspired bikini combined with a sweatband and a pair of boxing gloves draped around her shoulders. For more traditional tastes, retro is still the rage, with discreet Fifties and Sixties-inspired designs also in the spotlight.
