Tiger Woods is currently in the midst of dealing with the ramifications of a rollover car crash and subsequent arrest on a DUI charge in Jupiter, Florida.
The champion golfer, 50, was jailed for eight hours in Martin County before being released on bond after driving at "high speeds" in his Land Rover and colliding with a pick-up truck towing a trailer as he attempted to overtake, and was taken into custody for exhibiting "signs of impairment" per Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek.
Just days before the crash, however, the athlete had a triumphant comeback to his sport, playing at his first professional game after more than a year off.
Tiger's big comeback
Recently, Tiger had taken time away from the sport to care for himself after sustaining a few debilitating injuries over the years, most recently undergoing a seventh surgery on his back last year.
On Tuesday, March 24, he made his return with the TGL final to compete for the SoFi Cup, on behalf of his Jupiter Links. However, the team lost 9-2 at Palm Beach to the Los Angeles Golf Club.
While Tiger is still scheduled to play at the Augusta National Golf Club Masters later in April, his first Masters tournament since 2024, at the time he commented on the state of his body and his health, especially the residual effects from injuries sustained during three previous crashes as well.
"This body… it doesn't recover like it did when it was 24, 25," he said at the TGL tournament, per AP News, saying he's still "fighting through" some health issues. "It doesn't mean I'm not trying. I've had a couple bad injuries here over the past years that I've had to fight through and it's taken some time. But I keep trying."
Dealing with loss
He continued: "I want to play. I love the tournament. I'm going to be there either way with The Loop that's going up there, as well as the Champions Dinner… We'll see how it goes. I'll be practicing, playing at home this week and keep trying to make progress."
The dad-of-two also spoke of the loss at the game: "It felt great to be back with these guys. Frustrated we didn't get it done. We had opportunities. It feels good to be back. I'd like to be back in better circumstances."
"We got our (butts) kicked at the end. Three eagles in a row. I missed a short one to give them momentum and we never got it back."
His crash and arrest
The golfing legend was released in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Martin County Sheriff's Office confirmed. He has also been charged with property damage, also a misdemeanor, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
"The DUI investigators came to the scene and Mr Woods did exemplify signs of impairment," Sheriff Budensiek said during a press conference. "They did several tests on him. He did explain the injuries and surgeries that he’s had and we did take that into account, but they did some in-depth roadside tests."
