Oops! Craig Melvin may have let some news slip before it was even made public!
On the latest iteration of TODAY, on Wednesday, April 8, in their Pop Start sneak peek, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin and Carson Daly discussed the new (very viral) cover of Vogue with Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour, promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2 (in theaters starting May 1).
That's when Craig added: "You know how that movie's going to be good? You know how I can tell? JBH is in it," which led to an "ooh!" from Al Roker, and the camera turned to Jenna Bush Hager to the side, waiting for her Morning Boost moment, but left momentarily speechless.
"I don't know that you were supposed to drop that bomb," she confessed, all but confirming that the news is indeed true. "Wow!" Al exclaimed, with Savannah chiming in: "You cannot tell Craig anything!"
Craig, left embarrassed and in hysterics, quickly apologized, explaining that he didn't realize it wasn't "common knowledge," and when Savannah confirmed it was a surprise, Al replied: "It is now!" Craig shouted back: "Sorry about that, JBH!" and Savannah quipped: "Why don't you read my journal while you're at it?"
When the show returned after a commercial, Savannah explained she was "putting it back together here," and the show continued to poke fun at the hilarious moment for the rest of the two-hour morning.
Later, during one of Al's forecasts, when the rest of the anchors made fun of him by pretending to be on their phones, referencing a joke tantrum from earlier in the show, Al simply called out: "Jenna, are you in a new movie?" once again leaving her stunned and Craig in loud hysterics.
Once again, during the full Pop Start segment, Al and Savannah looked back on their appearances in the Sharknado franchise, and the former then joked with Jenna: "You can be in Devil Wears Prada 2, we were in Sharknado!"
The Devil Wears Prada sequel is already shaping up to be one of the year's most anticipated cinematic events, dropping nearly 20 years after the original arrived in 2006 and became a surprise box office and critical darling. Not only did it gross over $300 million at the global box office, it even received two Oscar nominations (one for Meryl's performance), and is now considered a pop culture phenomenon.
Meryl, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci all return for the sequel, in which Miranda Priestly (Meryl) grapples with the rapidly changing landscape of media, especially print media. She once again works with Andy Sachs (Anne) and her former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily) to ensure that Runway makes it through a decline.
The movie includes several other high-profile cameos outside of Jenna, some of them coming from Lady Gaga, Sydney Sweeney, Donatella Versace, Ciara, Calum Harper, and Ashley Graham. Others in the cast include Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, and Patrick Brammall.
