Oscar Isaac has gained legions of fans from his chameleonic star power in Star Wars and Frankenstein to his latest gritty turn in season two of Netflix’s Beef.
But he has a powerhouse by his side who is just as accomplished behind the lens.
His beautiful wife, Elvira Lind, is the Danish filmmaker and director who hasn't just captured Oscar's heart — she's been capturing award-winning stories on film for years.
Their love story may be one of the most low-key in Hollywood, but it's movie-worthy.
Power Couple
The pair met in 2012, but kept their relationship under wraps for years.
Of their initial meeting, Oscar told NPR, that he'd gone to a party dressed as fictional folk singer, Llewyn Davis, to get in character for the movie Inside Llewyn Davis.
"I was forced to be at this party, and I went dressed as Llewyn," he said. "It was a month before shooting. And then I was sitting in the corner just eating. I was the only person eating at the party.
"And this girl who ended up, she's a documentary filmmaker, so obviously she spotted the weirdo and went directly to that one. And sat with me and talked to me for a long time. I guess she liked the whole thing."
Fans only got official confirmation of their romance when Oscar leaned in for a kiss from his then-mystery date after winning a Golden Globe for Show Me a Hero in 2016.
Marriage
They officially tied the knot in March 2017, one month before welcoming their first child.
Oscar spoke about what sparked his desire to marry Elvira when he told GQ Style the heartfelt story behind his proposal: "At the time, right before it happened, my mom was ill, and so I saw [Elvira] carrying my child, bathing my sick mom. Seeing her do that, I just thought, 'I want to be with this person forever and ever.' I just wanted to take that extra step as well."
His 'miracle'
They are a match made in heaven, who take every opportunity to support and encourage each other.
Oscar told People: "But really, the miracle is that Elvira came into my life. And that she does what she does, which is, she never runs away from the sharp edges of life. She doesn't try to sand them down … For me, it's a very inspiring thing."
In turn, after welcoming their second child, Elvira shared a special note to her husband to celebrate their Oscar nomination for their short film The Letter Room. “To my talented husband,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time.
“Thank you for encouraging me and showing up and doing absolute magic like you always do. And thank you for growing the most impressive moustache I have ever seen. You are the funniest man I know. I love you more than any words can explain on social media. I am very happy we got to make this together-(and stayed married after).”
The woman behind the camera
Elvira is a formidable force in the documentary world. Her 2017 documentary Bobbi Jene swept the Tribeca Film Festival, winning Best Documentary Feature.
In 2021, her short film The Letter Room, starring Oscar, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
The pair also collaborated when they founded Mad Gene Media, their production company.
The Beef and family life
Oscar plays country club manager in the satirical second season of Beef and he often credits his real-life stable home for allowing him to dive into such "horrible" and intense characters.
The couple shares two sons; Eugene, who was born in 2017, and named after Oscar's late mom, and Mads who they welcomed two years later. Despite their massive success, they maintain a private life in Brooklyn, New York, where they are raising their family.
