"Better Together" singer Jack Johnson turned 51 on May 18.
The hit song was originally a part of his album titled, In Between Dreams, which was released in March 2005.
After the song's massive success, he also released it as a single in February 2006.
Since then, Jack has continued to not only make a name for himself in the music industry, but as an environmentalist and philanthropist as well.
Jack's career post-hit single
In 2006, he also put out a soundtrack album for the Curious George franchise called Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George.
Two years later, he uniquely recorded his album, Sleep Through the Static, using only a solar-powered plastic plant studio that runs on solar energy. That same year, he was one of Coachella's headliners too.
His journey on tour was documented, and was released as a documentary called En Concert in 2009.
Throughout those busy years, he also supported the Kōkua Hawai'i Foundation, by spearheading Kōkua Festivals, in order to raise money to bring environmental education to schools in Hawaii.
The documentary Kōkua 2008: 5 Years of Change was put out in 2009. A year later he released his next album, To The Sea. In 2012, he did a week-long acoustic tour of the Hawaiian islands alongside John Cruz and Paula Fuga.
In 2013, he put out his From Here to Now to You album and toured it. Four years later, he released his album, All the Light Above It Too, and in 2018 he put out Jack Johnson: The Essentials, which was an album that included all of his greatest hits.
The following year he released his album, This Warm December Vol. 3. In 2022, he put out his next album called Meet the Moonlight.
In May 2026, he showcased his documentary SURFILMUSIC at SXSW along with two albums, including SURFILMUSIC Soundtrack and 4-Tracks.
Jack's mindset
Jack has been in the industry for decades, therefore he knows a thing or two about longevity and it turns out that he has a simple "trick" to keep himself musically inspired.
He revealed: "I have to trick myself into thinking every album is my last one. I find I write better when I'm not thinking about performing — or when I'm thinking that people may not ever hear the songs I'm writing," per The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The performer makes sure to stay in the present moment and remain grateful for having the opportunity to tour.
He expressed: "Sometimes if I'm not careful, I can take it for granted. Going on tour now, for the first time in five years, is a reminder that it's a pretty special thing to sing songs — with my friends in my band — and present them to an audience that appreciates hearing them."
Family life
Apart from his professional career, Jack has been married to his college sweetheart Kim Johnson since 2000, and the duo met at the University of California.
The pair welcomed three children into the world together named Zachary Johnson, born in 2002, William Johnson, born in 2006, and Lourdes Johnson, born in 2008. The family resides in Hawaii, where Jack is originally from.
