Demi Moore is the gift that keeps on giving, and if her recent sartorial agenda is anything to go by, she has fully embraced it through fashion. The actress stepped out in a voluminous pink dress from Matières Fécales' fall/winter 2026 collection for the premiere of Paper Tiger by James Gray at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
The bustier was adorned with an oversized bow that created a gift-wrap-inspired silhouette, extending dramatically at the sides. The fabric featured frayed and torn detailing, layered with tulle and finished with a deconstructed hem.
The garment was inspired from designers Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran's fall 2026 collection, presented in Paris this March. Demi's stylist, Brad Goreski, shared an insight into the actress' choice of gown with Harper's Bazaar.
"At Cannes, anything is possible," he said. "When Demi and I were brainstorming about Cannes, I just said to her, 'Look, what I'm really feeling for you right now is like a super colorful, optimistic, vibrant, kind of effervescent presence on the carpet.' We have so many days back-to-back to do something that's exciting."
He continued: "She also wanted to explore some newer designers she hasn't worn before. I sent her some links and she screen-grabbed that pink gown. I was like, 'Oh, pop off,' because we've never really done a full-skirted gown like that. That's not something she's typically been drawn to."
"The dress has this slightly decayed effect to it, but then at the same time it was heavily sculpted and had a sweetness. There’s a combination of so many things there that I think she also embodies."
However, Demi's larger-than-like has broken the new dress code rules of the red carpet. The organisers of the prestigious event issued new rules last year to ban several types of gowns from the red carpet, referencing "decency" and "efficiency" with their decision. Voluminous dresses and garments with long trains have been prohibited as they "hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre". Naked dresses have also been added to the charter for "decency reasons".
"Tote bags, backpacks or large bags are prohibited during gala screenings [...] For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted. The Festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules," reads the Cannes Film Festival dress code.
