Elsbeth Tascioni is taking a brief break from cracking cases.
On Thursday, May 21, the Carrie Preston led Elsbeth will air its season three finale, wrapping up a season once again filled with mysteries needing solving, the titular characters quirky solutions, and plenty of celebrity guest stars.
Fret not however, the hit whodunnit has already been renewed for a fourth season, though fans will have to wait a few months to see it.
When does Elsbeth return?
CBS has yet to announce a release date for Elsbeth season four — the series typically airs Thursdays — however it is expected to follow its usual schedule of airing new seasons in the fall, either in September or October.
Its fellow Thursday night shows Ghosts (season six), Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (season three), and Matlock (season three) were also all renewed and are expected to return in the fall as well.
Elsbeth season three
The last episode fans saw prior to the finale that will air May 21 followed a gossip columnist, Betty Heymouth, who may have killed someone in order to keep a secret.
She was played by Tracey Ullman, who previously guest starred in season two as an entirely different character, Marilyn Gladwell, a professional psychic also at the center of a murder investigation.
"We wanted to celebrate the time-honored TV procedural tradition of bringing back former guest stars in entirely new roles — and who better than Tracey Ullman?" said Elsbeth's executive producer and showrunner, Jonathan Tolins, to TV Insider earlier this year.
"She's legendary for her ability to transform, and everyone at Elsbeth was thrilled she was willing to come play with us again," he added.
The season three finale will bring Elsbeth into a world of faded elegance, cabaret and murder after a minor royal's mysterious death at New York's most legendary hotel, per a logline.
When does Elsbeth season four start filming?
Season four is expecting to kick off production in the summer, reportedly filming in Brooklyn starting in July.
The cast only wrapped filming season three at the end of March, at which time Carrie took to Instagram and shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos, as well as glimpses into the cast's wrap party.
"That's a wrap on filming season 3 of #Elsbeth! SO much love and appreciation for this absolutely incredible cast and crew," she wrote.
