Ricky Martin defied security warnings after "an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage" at his concert in Montenegro on May 21.

The "She Bangs" singer was performing the opening night of his 'Ricky Martin Live tour' when the show was "abruptly" interrupted, his publicist, Róndine Alcalá, shared in a statement in Spanish and English on Instagram.

"During Ricky Martin's concert tonight in Montenegro — where the artist was kicking off the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour — an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance."

Róndine continued: "As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage while security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance."

Róndine said that although Ricky was advised to cancel the performance, he defied the warning "in order to fulfill his commitment to his fans."

"Although members of the artist's team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfil his commitment to his fans."

His publicist added that Ricky will continue his tour with "upcoming performances across Europe and additional international dates as scheduled," including his return to the UK for the first time in a decade, as part of HeritageLive Festival at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk on Saturday, August 22.

Ricky's fans were shocked by the news but commended the singer for continuing with his performance.
