Jennifer Lopez has been "crying for two months" over her twins, Max and Emme.

The 56-year-old had to fight back tears during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on May 27 as she revealed the 18-year-olds are preparing to move out of the family home.

Jennifer confessed that she is not looking forward to becoming an empty nester once Max and Emme head off to college in the fall.

"Don't talk about it, I'll start crying," she told Jimmy, while choking back tears when asked about her kids graduating from high school.

Jennifer revealed that Max and Emme went to different high schools, and even though she has been shedding tears for two months already, she knows she will cry again at their graduation ceremony.

Max and Emme will also be heading to different colleges, and Jennifer "absolutely" plans to move them into their dorm rooms, regardless of whether her appearance causes a commotion.

"I mean, it's fine," she said of their decision to attend different schools, adding: "I want them to be happy. Go where they want to go, do what they want to do."

Unlike many parents who will be doing a last-minute Target run to stock up their kids' dorm rooms, Jennifer said Max and Emme already have everything they need.

"We're going to pack up their rooms here, and they're going to take all the things that they want to take to their dorm," she explained.

"Then they're going to realize that their dorms are too small. They're going to miss home. I hope they want to come back real soon," she added.

Jennifer revealed that it was only recently that it hit her that her twins will be flying the nest. "All year people asked me, 'They're going away to college, it's going to be terrible.' No, it's going to be great," she recalled.

"I want them to go out there. I want them to do what they want to do. They have big dreams. They have things they want to do. It's going to be great," she continued.

"And then like two months ago I had to write the thing for the yearbook or whatever the heck thing they make you write. When I tell you, the tears. Two days it took me to write those things," she added.

Jennifer shares Max and Emme with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony. In February, they turned 18, and she penned a gushing tribute to them on Instagram.

"'I love you' could never encapsulate the depth of feeling, affection, and care that I have for you, my coconuts," she said in part.

"It has always been the three of us!! We have been on this journey together. We have always had each other to hold on to and be that steady presence in the middle of any snowstorm. And I promise you, my beautiful coconuts, no matter how big you get, that's how it will always be."
