Wallace Shawn is proving that even with nearly five decades of work in Hollywood, his signature sparkle hasn't dimmed!
The actor and essayist, 82, was recently spotted on social media in a photo shared by film producer Arden Wohl, from a school reunion for The Dalton School, an elite private co-ed prep school that is a prominent member of the Ivy Preparatory School League.
While Arden was attending her 25th school reunion, she met Wallace, who was attending his 65th reunion. And the star, dressed in a white button down with black slacks, looked exactly the same as his days starring in The Princess Bride back in 1987.
Arden captioned her post: "I transferred from The Spence School to the Dalton School in pursuit of a coeducational environment and the broader exchange of ideas it fostered."
"I never experienced the transition as leaving one beloved institution for another, but rather as an expansion of my intellectual world. Each school shaped me in distinct and enduring ways, offering gifts that remain invaluable and impossible to replicate."
As she mentioned running into Wallace at his own reunion, going by "Wally Shawn" per his name tag, Arden wrote: "It is a moving reminder that the true legacy of a great school lies not in its buildings or traditions, but in the generations of curious minds it gathers into a continuing conversation."
Even in his 80s, Wallace is still going strong, most recently appearing in the Off-Broadway play The Fever in early 2026, and will next be heard as the voice of Rex in Toy Story 5, a role he has brought to life since 1995.
Recently, the playwright spoke with Interview Magazine about looking back on his illustrious career, saying especially that he had only recently developed a habit that many in the entertainment industry have notably eschewed – watching his own stuff.
"A lot of actors don't like to watch themselves," he explained. "For me, it's my new hobby or something. I don't expect you to understand, but time telescopes backwards."
"The last 49 years that I've been acting feel like a very short part of my life, and something I took up quite recently and never expected to do. I don't feel some of the things that people who always dreamed of being actors feel. Obviously I have little moments of being upset, where I think, 'I didn't do that moment very well.'"
He also spoke about balancing his capabilities as both a writer and an actor when asked whether he ever had to "tamp down" his writer self when working on acting jobs. "I don't accept jobs that I think are making the world a worse place," Wallace responded. "Although, I may be kidding myself sometimes."
"I find it challenging and interesting to say lines that I don't think are very well-written. Occasionally, if I think they're so badly written that the writer wouldn't even know, I might slightly improve them. Most of the time, I've done things that are very well-written."
He spoke especially highly of playing Dr. John Sturgis in The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon. "I always tell people that William Shakespeare himself couldn't write an episode of Young Sheldon as well as the writers of Young Sheldon. Their writing is perfect for what they're trying to do."
