Sharon Stone revealed the shocking reason her ex-husband decided he was "done" with their marriage.
The Basic Instinct star admitted that her ex called time on their relationship because he thought she was "ridiculous" for considering a double mastectomy during a health scare.
Sharon, 68, discovered she had multiple "gigantic" tumors in her breasts in 2001, and recalled on Monday, June 1, that her husband at the time was "furious" that she would consider removing her breasts.
"One of [the tumors] was bigger than the size of my entire left breast," she said on David Begnaud's The Person Who Believed In Me podcast.
"The doctor had come out to my house and said, 'Look, we think you should have a bilateral mastectomy. This is really bad. And we usually, when they're all the way up into here, we know before we go in that they're cancer."
Sharon continued: "And I said, 'I don't have cancer,' and he said, 'You don't get to decide that.' And I said, 'I do get to decide that. But I am deciding that I will have a bilateral, because I'm not [expletive] around.' And my husband said, 'This is ridiculous.' And got up and left the room."
When David asked her what her husband thought was ridiculous, she replied: "That I would have a bilateral. He was furious."
"Oh, not that the cancer, if it was true, might kill you?" the podcast host responded, before Sharon said: "No, no."
David then asked if her ex was angry about the "breasts being removed," and she replied: "Yeah. And so the doctor said to him, 'If I had more patients like her, we'd have more women alive today. You need to sit down.' And I said, 'I make the decisions, not you.'"
Sharon admitted that she knew by her husband's reaction that their marriage was over.
"That was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me," she added. "It was just over in the room. You could just tell. It was over.
"He thought I was ridiculous. He thought it was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself."
Sharon later learned that the tumors were benign and had them surgically removed instead of undergoing a double mastectomy.
While she didn't name her ex-husband during her appearance on the podcast, she was married to journalist Phil Bronstein from 1998 to 2004.
Sharon initially revealed her health scare in her 2021 memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice. She also reflected on the surgery to remove the tumors during her appearance at the Women's Cancer Research Fund's (WCRF) An Unforgettable Evening fundraiser in 2023.
"Those mammograms are not fun," she explained. "And for someone like me who was told that I had breast cancer because I had a tumor that was larger than my breast and they were sure that I couldn't possibly have a tumor without it being cancer, it wasn't.
"But I went to the hospital, saying, 'If you open me up and it's cancer, please take both my breasts,' because I am not a person defined by my breasts. You know, that might seem funny coming from me since you've all seen them."
