Richard Gere is one proud dad. The Hollywood icon, 76, shared a rare glimpse into his family life, opening up about his son Homer and his growing success in the entertainment industry.

Speaking to People while promoting the second season of his Paramount+ thriller The Agency, the Pretty Woman star admitted he has been deeply impressed by the way his 26-year-old son has embraced the challenges of Hollywood.

"I'm proud of him on two levels," Richard said. "One, he's really good. He really kind of preternaturally knows what he's doing."

For a father who has spent more than five decades navigating the highs and lows of the entertainment industry, it was a powerful endorsement.

Homer, whom Richard shares with his former wife Carey Lowell, has quietly begun building an acting career of his own, recently appearing in HBO's hit drama Euphoria opposite Sydney Sweeney.

While Richard confessed he still needs to catch up on one of his son's episodes, he couldn't help but celebrate the exciting opportunities already coming Homer's way.

"I still need to see his second episode of Euphoria, but he has this big thing coming up with Ryan Murphy," he revealed.

The upcoming project, The Shards, will see Homer star alongside Kaia Gerber, the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford, who was married to Richard from 1991 until 1995.'

The proud father also revealed that Homer recently completed filming a project with acclaimed director Oliver Stone, further cementing his status as one of Hollywood's rising talents.

With a laugh, Richard joked: "I can retire now. I'm passing the torch." Despite Homer's growing list of acting credits, Richard made it clear that he has never pressured his son to pursue the same career path.

In fact, the Golden Globe-winning actor insists he would support Homer no matter what direction he chooses in life. "I don't think he's got to make a life choice to commit to this if he's doing this now," Richard explained. "He's good at it and he's having fun, but he can become a rock climber if he wants to do that." What matters most, he said, is that his son remains grounded. "He's also handling it really well. He's a good kid."

Richard described Homer as "a really good young man who kind of gets it," a quality he believes will serve him well in an industry that can often be unforgiving. Acting, he acknowledged, is not a career for everyone. "It's not an easy job," he said. "Not everyone can function within it."

Still, he believes his son possesses the temperament and resilience needed to thrive. "I think he can stay." The actor's comments offered a rare insight into his close relationship with Homer, who largely stays out of the spotlight despite having one of Hollywood's most recognisable surnames.

Richard has often been fiercely protective of his private life and family, making his latest reflections particularly meaningful. The conversation also prompted the star to reflect on his own extraordinary journey through Hollywood.

Before becoming one of cinema's leading men, Richard considered several different career paths and pursued a number of creative interests. "I'm still doing it, so it must have been the most powerful choice, but I was also a musician," he said. "I was a studio musician and had a lot of other things going on."

Ultimately, he found that acting allowed him to combine all of his passions. "Acting was the one that kind of brought it all together. My interest in psychology, philosophy, music, art."

For Richard, the profession has always been about understanding people. "It's been kind of an amazing job, to filter all of my interests into this one thing," he reflected.

The star also discussed his latest role as CIA operative Bosko in The Agency, explaining how the show's themes of identity resonate with everyday life. "We all take on different personas," Richard said.

"You get up in the morning, your dog knows you as one person. Your kids know you as another person. Your husband knows you as another person. Your colleagues know you as someone else."

The actor added that those shifting identities often raise deeper questions about authenticity and self-discovery.

"Everyone knows you differently. Where is the truth in the end? Where is that root self that you can come back to, and do you have to nurture that root self?"
