Jame Lynn Spears' oldest daughter Maddie, 18, has spoken out in her first ever interview with her mom, giving a rare insight into growing up in her famous family.
The teenager and Sweet Magnolias actress opened up about what it was like for Maddie having a famous pop star as an aunt, and how it confused her at times.
"She did think all pop stars were her aunt," Jamie Lynn told People magazine. "I did think that," Maddie echoed. "She was like 'Aunt GaGa, Aunt RiRi,' I was like 'No, no, no, it's not how it works."
Maddie went on to say: "I remember one time passing her in the hallway and I was kind of like. why didn't she talk to me? That's my aunt!"
Jamie added: "You go to these different awards and events and we're just in the back in our T-shirt and cutoff and I'm sure she's offended that not every pop star is stopping to see their niece. I'm like 'You don't know those people, they don't know you'. It was one of those cute moments that happened. But too, she was born with everyone knowing who her family is, as to where I grew up, where I do remember a transition, and she was just kind of born into it so there wasn't anything odd about it because it's pretty much all she's known."
While Britney and Jamie Lynn have had a complex relationship over the years, which heightened after the termination of Britney's 13-year conservationship in 2021, and the release of Jamie Lynn's memoir, Things I Should Have Said, in 2022.
The memoir opened up about her relationship with Britney, leading to legal threats from the singer's lawyer. In recent years, the pair have shown signs of reconnecting.
In 2023, Britney shared a post on Instagram revealing she had gone to visit her younger sister on the Zoe 102 set.
Jamie Lynn also called Britney a "good big sister" during her stint on I'm A Celebrity in 2023. Jamie Lynn shares Maddie with ex-fiancé Casey Aldridge, and is also mom to eight-year-old Ivey, who she shares with husband Jamie Watson.
It's a bittersweet year for the doting mom, who will be waving off Maddie to college in a few months. "Everything she's doing with her life now is a lot of firsts for me," the actress told People.
"Watching her become an adult, accomplishing her goals and going to college...I can't believe I have a kid doing all of these things."
Maddie will study health sciences at the University of Southern Mississippi, and her mom is making the most of their time together while she's still at home.
