Michelle Obama and her husband, Barack Obama, may both be in their 60s, but there is one noticeable difference in their appearance that highlights the aging process: their hair. According to the former First Lady, Barack's graying locks often make him appear older than her.
In a new interview with People, the former President of the United States was asked how his sixties is treating him. "I mean, look, I don’t look as good as her, but I feel great," he replied.
Michelle then weighed in on her husband's response. "Of course you do. It’s because you don’t dye your hair. You could have made the choice," she revealed. "Yeah, it's too much trouble," added Barack.
The couple's joint interview comes after the grand opening of The Obama Presidential Center on June 19, 2026. The Obama Presidential Center's campus boasts 19 acres in Chicago’s Jackson Park, a stone's throw from the University of Chicago. It features 3.7 acres of parkland, offices for the Obama Foundation, an auditorium for public events, public art and athletic facilities, and a new branch of the Chicago Public Library. It has accumulated a cost of approximately $850 million.
During the event, Barack and Michelle's daughters – Malia, 27, and Sasha, 25 – were seen turning to laugh at their dad after Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Obama Foundation, joked about his changing hair color.
"Now a lot has obviously changed since then, and I'm not just talking about Barack's changing hair color." said Valerie.
Barack and Michelle first met in June 1989, when the former joined the law firm Sidley & Austin. Michelle, then Michelle Robinson, was his senior adviser for his first three months, and declined his initial offers to date. In July 1991, nearly two years later, Barack proposed after passing the bar exam. On October 3, 1992, they tied the knot in front of loved ones at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.
The couple welcomed their eldest daughter Malia in July 1998 and their second child, Sasha, in June 2001.
Elsewhere in the interview, Barack opened up about his marriage to Michelle. "I don’t know if it’s been an equal partnership, but it’s worked out for me pretty well. I’ve gotten more out of it than she has. For her it’s probably more of a mixed bag," he said.
