Malia Obama had a day to remember as she marked her 28th birthday on July 4, with special messages from her loved ones.
The aspiring filmmaker featured in a never-before-seen home video featuring her younger sister Sasha Obama and mom Michelle, which was posted on Michelle's Instagram account.
In the footage, Malia looked stylish dressed in a white crop top teamed with a denim skirt, while Sasha looked cool in an oversized white linen mini dress. Michelle, meanwhile, looked incredibly youthful in a pink bucket hat teamed with a denim jacket, beige top and cargo pants, appearing as if she could be the third sister.
"Happy birthday, Malia! You bring so much light and energy into the world with everything you do. Your dad and I are so proud of the woman you’ve become," the doting mom wrote alongside the clip. Fans were quick to comment on the post, with many remarking on Michelle's look. "Michelle looking like the sister and not the mother," one wrote, while another commented: "Michelle looks like the older sister." A third added: "Love this, you all look great!"
Barack also shared a sweet tribute to his firstborn on Instagram. The doting dad chose two pictures - one of Malia as a baby, and another of the pair in present day. "Happy Birthday, Malia! Don’t know where the time goes – but the joy of having you as a daughter never gets old," he wrote.
Malia and her sister both value their privacy and are rarely seen in public. They did, however, make a rare appearance on June 18 to support their parents at the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. During one memorable moment, Michelle took the stage to pay tribute to Barack and her family, causing Malia to wipe away tears.
The former First Lady spoke of her pride for her daughters, who will always be her "babies", before going on list all of Barack's accomplishments. She said: "You told me all those years ago that you couldn't promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life, and of course you outdid yourself and managed to give me both."
Praising Barack's dedication and strength, she went on to say: "Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence, your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber."
Malia's mom recently spoke with Steven Spielberg on her IMO podcast, which she hosts with her brother Craig Robinson, revealing that she will "never invite us to anything that she does," when it comes to her film work.
As Steven was sharing how the set of his latest project, seemingly the sci-fi epic Disclosure Day, was "the first set Barack ever visited," he noted: "Even though your daughter is a filmmaker, Malia. So I feel bad I scooped Malia." "She doesn't care. She will never invite us to anything that she does. You know, she doesn't want us around her stuff," Michelle then confessed.
