Shia LaBeouf looked almost unrecognizable from his Disney Channel days as he resurfaced in a rare new photograph alongside his former Transformers co-star Josh Duhamel.
The 40-year-old actor appeared shirtless in the candid selfie, revealing his heavily tattooed chest and arms while sporting a thick, dark beard and pronounced moustache.
Wearing a faded grey baseball cap, Shia looked worlds away from the fresh-faced teenager who rose to fame playing mischievous Louis Stevens in the Disney Channel comedy Even Stevens more than two decades ago.
Josh, 53, kept things casual beside him in a fitted grey T-shirt and green baseball cap emblazoned with the word "Gatlin".
"Come see us at the Fanboy Expo in Knoxville," Josh wrote alongside the reunion snap.
The former co-stars were appearing together at the Knoxville Convention Center as part of a special Transformers reunion during the three-day pop-culture convention. Both actors were scheduled to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photographs on Friday and Saturday.
Shia starred as unlikely hero Sam Witwicky in the first three films directed by Michael Bay, beginning with the original 2007 blockbuster. Josh played military officer William Lennox, fighting alongside Sam and the Autobots throughout the hugely successful action franchise.
Their unexpected reunion immediately delighted nostalgic fans, many of whom flooded Josh's post with calls for the pair to return to the big screen together.
"We want both of you back again in Transformers," one follower wrote.
"Greatest duo of all time, tell Mr Bay get the OG crew and the Mark Wahlberg crew to come together for T6," another added.
A third pleaded: "Shia, we need you more than ever. Need you in another Transformers movie, dude. We need you, my GOAT Sam, we need you!"
The public appearance comes after a turbulent period for Shia. In June, he pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery stemming from an incident at a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras in February. He received suspended six-month sentences and was placed on active probation for two years, with alcohol rehabilitation, sensitivity training and anger-management classes also ordered.
Shia had previously said that his behaviour during the incident was unacceptable and accepted responsibility for what happened.
His former partner FKA Twigs also settled her long-running lawsuit against him in July 2025. The musician had accused Shia of physical and emotional abuse, allegations he denied in a 2021 legal filing. The confidential case was dismissed with prejudice after both parties agreed to settle out of court.
Despite the controversies, fans responding to his latest appearance appeared overwhelmingly focused on nostalgia – and the possibility of seeing Sam Witwicky and Captain Lennox reunite once again.
