"Commiserations to a proud Norway team.

"Onto the semi final… Never in doubt!"

The playful final line appeared to acknowledge just how tense the match had been, with England forced to come from behind before eventually sealing victory in extra time.

Prince William also reposted the official England football team's celebratory message, which read: "Into the final four of the @FIFAWorldCup. GET IN THERE!"

The future King is a lifelong football supporter and serves as Patron of the Football Association. He is also a devoted Aston Villa fan and regularly attends major England fixtures and FA Cup finals.

England's victory was secured by Jude Bellingham, who scored both of the Three Lions' goals during a tense evening at Miami Stadium.

The result sent England into the World Cup semi-finals for the fourth time in the country's history, following previous appearances in 1966, 1990 and 2018. They will now face either reigning champions Argentina or Switzerland for a place in the final.

Norway's defeat brought an end to an extraordinary campaign in which the team reached its first World Cup quarter-final and returned to the tournament for the first time in 28 years.

Former England captain David Beckham was in attendance to watch the dramatic quarter-final alongside wife Victoria and three of their children and was seen celebrating the victory in the stands.

England are now just one victory away from their first World Cup final since lifting the trophy in 1966 – and William's enthusiastic reaction showed that belief is growing both inside and outside the royal household.
