Josh Grisetti has died at 44. The Broadway actor was best known for his work in the musical Something Rotten! and on Amazon Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The actor's agent, Rick Ferrari, confirmed his death to NBC News, saying: "I'm shocked and devastated. That's all I've got."

Just days before his death by suicide on Friday, July 11, Josh shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram.

Josh's last post on social media was an emotional goodbye

"When you have to leave a production for personal reasons before getting to see the show open, and the cast and team do stuff like this…," he captioned the post of photos of his Legally Blonde cast. "Literally cried on the plane… little gestures go a long way when your heart is hurting... Love this group of misfits right back!! Happy opening, LEGALLY BLONDE – @trentinomusicfestival!! I'm so proud of you all. Knock their pink socks off!! "

Since news of his tragic death broke, friends and fans of Josh have flooded the comments with tributes.

"What do i even say? i spent a month with the kindest, funniest director and person i've ever met who can act on a DIME, and now he's gone?" wrote one person. Another added: "Josh and I grew up in the same town together. I will always remember him for his charismatic personality, absolute insane raw creative talent and good heart. He was a real sweetheart. The world definitely feels dimmer now. Praying for his family."

The actor was beloved in the Broadway community

"You were the best of us, Josh," another person wrote.

Josh's friend, Something Rotten! co-star Rob McClue announced Josh's death on Instagram on Sunday, July 12.

"It is with a shattered heart that I share that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday. I'm not ready to even attempt to understand," he wrote. "My heart is with his wife and family as they try to deal with the reality of this."

Who was Josh Grisetti?

Josh was born in Washington, D.C. on December 1, 1981 and grew up outside of Roanoke, Virginia. He graduated from The Boston Conservatory in 2004 with a degree in musical theatre.

Josh and Mackenzie tied the knot in 2020

Josh's career started in 2008 when he starred in the musical adaption of Enter Laughing at the off-Broadway theater, York Theatre. In 2015, he made his Broadway debut in the original musical, It Shoulda Been You.

He later starred as Nigel Bottom in Something Rotten! both on Broadway and on the show's first national tour.

On television, Josh appeared in two pilots for NBC, The Gates and Like Magic, and had a recurring role of Ralph, a comedy staff writer on the fifth season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The actor kept his personal life private. In 2020, he tied the knot with his wife, Mackenzie Perpich. On Valentine's Day in 2026, she shared a photo of her kissing Josh with the caption: "Everyday is Valentine's when you're married to @joshgrisetti."
