Who is Philip Seymour Hoffman?
Born on 23 July 1967, Philip Seymour Hoffman started his screen career with an episode cameo on Law & Order in 1991. More roles were soon to follow, including an appearance in Al Pacino's 1992 epic Scent of a Woman.
Now, he's best remembered for roles in The Hunger Games, Magnolia, The Master and a lead casting as Truman himself in Capote.

Star career
The actor, director and producer was one of cinema's most celebrated figures, being declared by The Independent as the greatest film actor of the 21st century.
The Oscar-winner earned Best Actor in 2006 for his role in Capote and garnered a loyal audience of fans with supporting and lead roles alike. He received nominations for Best Performance in a Supporting Role three times, recognising his work in films such as Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt, and The Master.

Long-term love
For a man so wholly tied to the entertainment industry, it's unsurprising that he met the love of his life at an off-Broadway play in 1999.
Costume designer Mimi O'Donnell welcomed three children with the actor, who left his estate solely to her. They remained together until a few months before his death in 2014.

Cooper Hoffman
The oldest child of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cooper was born on 20 March 2003. He debuted on screen in 2021's Licorice Pizza with a lead role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Since then, his star has only continued to rise with roles in Old Guy (2024), Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk (2025) and I Want Your Sex (2026).

Tallulah Hoffman
Born in November 2006, Philip Seymour Hoffman's middle child Tallulah has also made her mark on the big screen.
She appeared alongside her brother with a short cameo in 2021 coming-of-age feature Licorice Pizza, translating the family's real-life bond into a working relationship on screen.

Willa Hoffman
Philip welcomed his third child with Mimi on 17 October 2008. Willa Hoffman joined her sister Tallulah and brother Cooper with a small appearance on Licorice Pizza.
The arrival of his youngest had Philip a little flustered, arriving late to the Celebrity Charades benefit that year. The announcer explained: “Philip Seymour Hoffman is going to be very late. Just two nights ago, his family grew a little larger.”

The loss of a legend
Philip sadly died at the age of 46 in 2014, following a battle with drug addiction. The actor reportedly rejected any suggestion of setting up a trust for his children, instead leaving the bulk of his estate to Mimi.
His son has opened up about life without Philip's guidance, telling GQ: "He’s my favorite actor, but he’s also my dad. He’s also not here. A lot of people idolize their parents because they’re great parents. It’s a different thing to idolize your parent because you love their art.”
