Emmy Rossum has been married to film and TV producer Sam Esmail since 2017.
In 2013, the pair met on the set of the rom-com Comet, in which Emmy starred in and Sam was the director and writer.
The duo hit it off during Sam's first feature film, and started dating once they concluded shooting, and in 2015, they got engaged.
They tied the knot two years later and they welcomed their daughter in 2021, as well as their son in 2023, whose names remain undisclosed.
In celebration of Emmy's new Hulu show called Furious, which premiered on July 27, we've delved into their family ties below.
Who is Sam?
© WireImageSam is most known for creating the popular show Mr. Robot, which stars Rami Malek. He is also the vision behind the series Homecoming, starring Julia Roberts and Janelle Monáe.
He has also directed Briarpatch, Angelyne, The Resort, Leave The World Behind and Metropolis.
Sam attended New York University, where he majored in film, and minored in computer science. Post-graduation, he launched his own software company called Portal Vision.
Afterwards, he attended Dartmouth's creative writing program. Later on, he studied at AFI Conservatory and earned an MFA in directing.
What did Emmy first think of Sam?
© Getty ImagesSparks flew when the two met and Emmy recalled to Vogue: "I just thought he was one of the more unique, kind, creative, brilliant people I'd ever met. Just somebody that I always wanted to be around."
The two also bonded over their love of New York City, given that Sam is from New Jersey and Emmy is from the big apple, therefore, they knew that there was no better place for them to reside together.
Emmy added: "We briefly flirted with the idea of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which is also a place we love, but New York is just kind of inherently us."
Their take on long-distance
© Getty ImagesAlthough New York City is home for them, they often have to go separate ways due to their projects, but they make it work through consistency.
Emmy revealed to Extra: "We are both equally committed to our art, as we always have been, and to each other. We text multiple times a day, all day long, send little videos back and forth on set, try to share as much of our lives as we can so we don't feel that disconnect."
Their take on parenting
© Getty ImagesThe duo are keen on raising their children to be humble, as Emmy expressed to People: "[We've] been able to create a life for our kids in New York that’s grounded."
She added: "[The kids] kind of know what we do, but they think set is a place where you go to have lollipops and that there’s a lot of chairs to sit in."
How has parenting changed Emmy?
© GC ImagesEmmy sees a change in herself since having children. She revealed to the outlet: "[I'm] no less ambitious but slightly pickier than I might have been. I have to be really obsessed with something to want to be away from them."
