15 massive sitcom stars from the '80s who vanished from our screens — what happened to them?

Julie Ann Haddock appeared in 17 episodes of '80s classic The Facts of Life as sporty student Cindy Webster. Her role was reduced after season one and her last acting role came in season eight, visiting the rest of the cast as now-fashion model Cindy Baker.

After she left the onscreen gang, Julie has kept her personal life relatively private. She married seven-time Emmy-winning technical director Eric Becker in 1997. After welcoming son Brody, they divorced in 2018. In 2025, she appeared on an episode of the 80sthen80snow podcast to talk about her time on The Facts of Life.

Kristy McNichol bookended the decade with strong sitcom roles, starring on Family between 1976 and 1980, and then taking on a main role in Empty Nest, a spin-off of The Golden Girls.

She's since left acting behind and officially retired in 2001. Kristy has been in a happy relationship with her girlfriend Martie Allen for over 30 years.

Andrea Elson found dual fame in the '80s with starring roles on Wizz Kids and ALF. In Wizz Kids, she played the scientifically-talented detective Alice Tyler, while on ALF she starred as the only daughter of the Tanner family.

She married Scott Hopper in 1993, after meeting on the set of ALF, and the couple share two children. Andrea now reportedly works as a yoga instructor and appeared on screen for the first time since 1997 in 2023 documentary ALF on ALF.

Tina Yothers first appeared on screen in anthology series Disneyland in 1981. She appeared on hit sitcom Family Ties between 1982 and 1989, starring in 172 episodes.

She stepped away from Hollywood in the early 2000s to focus on her family. Tina married contractor Robert Kaiser in 2002 and share two children. She's occasionally reappeared in nostalgic TV projects but is largely enjoying a more private life. 

Staci Keanan was cast in the leading role of Nicole Bradford on My Two Dads. When Nicole's mother dies, she leaves her daughter in joint custody of two men who fought for her affections – either of whom may be the father.

In 2010, she retired from the screen and pursued a career in law, graduating from Southwestern Law School in 2013 and working as a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles. But she hasn't entirely forgotten her sitcom roots and now co-hosts the Step by Step podcast, named after her '90s TV hit.

The Wonder Years made Josh Saviano a fan-favourite as Kevin Arnold's nerdy best friend, Paul Pfeiffer, but disappeared in 1993. after a 5 year run. Apart from a short dip back into the acting pond on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Josh Saviano hasn't been seen on screen.

Instead, he's transitioned to a career in law. Josh read political science at Yale University and went on to become a partner at New York firm Morrison Cohen LLP before leaving to build his own firm. Now, he's working as chief intellectual property officer at NuCo Entertainment. The '80s star married Jennifer Romer in 2002 and the couple share a daughter, Noa.

Sondra Huxtable walked on screen a little later than her co-stars on The Cosby Show, arriving in episode 10 of the first season. Sabrina Le Beauf starred as the oldest daughter of Cliff and Clair Huxtable, the Princeton University student who went on to wed Elvin Thibodeaux.

She has since left Hollywood behind, instead continuing her acting career on the stage as part of the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C.. She's also found a completely new outlet for her creative skills, working professionally as an interior decorator. 

Before there was Saved by the Bell, there was Good Morning, Miss Bliss. The '80s sitcom is now also known as Saved by the Bell: The Junior High Years, and starred Max Battimo as Mikey Gonzalez, best friend to Zack Morris, throughout its first and only season.

Max's career lasted between 1988 and 1989, and he's since found success in an entirely different field. According to The Sports Column, as of 2024 the former actor was working as a collegiate hockey referee.

Girl-obsessed Mike Seaver was a fixture on Growing Pains for seven years, thanks to star Kirk Cameron. But it wasn't his only '80s hit: the actor was cast on projects like Two Marriages and feature film Like Father Like Son.

He's still acting but has stepped back from Hollywood. Now, he's working on Christian film projects like Left Behind and marital drama Fireproof. Kirk has been married to Chelsea Noble since 1991 and the couple share six children.

Freddy Lippincottleman made Corky Pigeon a recognisable guest star on Silver Spoons between 1983 and 1985, appearing in 18 episodes as Ricky Stratton's friend. His last role came just two years later in Party Camp.

 In 2008, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that he was planning a five-week acting course to give back to his community in Canyon Lake. They added that the star had transitioned to a career in music during the '90s, joining punk bands like The Gain and Big in Japan and owns a promotional sales company.

Felice Schachter guest starred as the unconventionally genius Nancy Olson on The Facts of Life, taking on a main role in the show for 19 episodes between 1979 and 1982. She returned for a cameo appearance in 1986.

She briefly returned to the screen in 2001 on 30 Years to Life, but has otherwise stayed away from the screen. Felice is reportedly now working as a teacher after graduating with a master's degree in education and lives in Manhattan. Felice has also welcomed a son, William. 

Heather Hopper starred on Saved by the Bell precursor Good Morning, Miss Bliss as Nikki Coleman. Her '80s stardom also included guest roles on Punky Brewster, Married with Children and parody It's Garry Shandling's Show. 

She was last seen on screen in an episode of Passions in 2004. Heather keeps fans updated via her Instagram, regularly sharing scenery from her travels and animal friends. 

Tempestt Bledsoe got her start in the '80s on ABC Afterschool Specials but it was her star role as Vanessa Huxtable on The Cosby Show that made her a household name. She's since had recurring roles on series like Guys with Kids and The Replacements. 

The '80s sitcom star last appeared on screen in a 2019 episode of Family Reunion. According to Black Doctor in 2016, she was living happily with long-term boyfriend Darryl M. Bell who starred as Ron Johnson, Jr. on A Different World.

Suzanne Somers found megastar '80s fame on Three's Company between 1977 and 1981. In 1987, she continued to bring her comedy skills to the screen with She's the Sheriff (1987-1989). Suzanne last appeared on screen in 2001 with Say It Isn't So.

The actress founded a cosmetics company with her second husband, television host Alan Hamel. She welcomed son Bruce Somers Jr. during her first marriage. Suzanne sadly passed in 2023 at the age of 76 after a battle against breast cancer. 

Nancy McKeon made it big with a role on The Facts of Life that almost lasted the entire decade, starting in 1980 and finishing up her role in 1988. She kept working into the early 2000s, with a recurring role on The Division and was last seen on screen in TV series Panic.

Nancy took a 9-year break between Sonny with a Chance and You Light Up My Christmas, and appears to be prioritising life away from the screen, keeping her acting talent up to date with an appearance in Off Broadway play Pen Pals!. She married film technician Marc Andrus in 2003 and the couple share two children, Harlow and Aurora.
