Reese Witherspoon has reassured fans that her father, John Draper Witherspoon, is "fine now" after he was reportedly taken to hospital following a fall on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The Legally Blonde actress, 50, addressed the reports in a message shared on her Instagram Stories later that day, thanking those who had reached out to check on her family.
"Earlier today, several outlets reported that my dad was taken to the hospital after a fall," Reese wrote.
"I want to let everyone know that he is fine now. He is being taken care of by wonderful doctors and nurses."
She added: "Thank you to everyone who reached out. It means the world to our family."
According to reports, John, 84, was found near the pool area of his Nashville, Tennessee, condo building before emergency services were called and he was taken to hospital.
Authorities confirmed that a medical incident had taken place at the building, although they did not identify the person involved.
John is a retired ear, nose and throat surgeon who also served as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserves.
He married Reese's mother, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Witherspoon, in 1970 after the couple met while studying at the University of Tennessee, where Betty trained as a nurse.
They welcomed their son, John Jr., in 1972, followed by Reese in 1976, and raised their children in Nashville.
Although Reese went on to build a hugely successful career in Hollywood, she has frequently spoken fondly about her Southern upbringing and the influence of her parents.
John and Betty have also been there for some of the biggest moments of their daughter's career.
The proud parents were in the audience when Reese won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in 2005's Walk the Line, and later joined her when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.
Reese's reassurance that John is doing well prompted relief among fans, as she made clear that he remains in good hands while receiving medical care.
