Reese Witherspoon had fans doing a double take this week after stepping out in a vibrant pink dress that instantly evoked memories of her beloved Legally Blonde character, Elle Woods.

The Morning Show star appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon looking almost unchanged from the actress who first charmed audiences as the Harvard-bound sorority queen more than two decades ago.

Reese, 49, radiated confidence in a striking fuchsia slip dress featuring delicate straps and a flattering silhouette. She paired the look with sparkling jewellery and whimsical feather-trimmed heels, adding a playful touch that felt perfectly in keeping with Elle's signature style.

With her honey-blonde hair styled in loose waves and her glowing complexion on full display, the Oscar winner looked remarkably youthful as she took to the famous late-night sofa.

The appearance came as Reese reflected on the lasting impact of Legally Blonde, which first hit cinemas in 2001 and remains one of the most beloved comedies of its generation.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Reese revealed that fans still approach her regularly to share how the film changed their lives. "Probably, like, twice a week, somebody comes up to me and says, 'That's my favorite movie,'" she explained.

The actress was particularly moved by the number of women who tell her the film inspired their career choices. "I went to law school because of you," she recalled hearing from fans.

Why Elle Woods still resonates

More than 25 years after audiences first met Elle Woods, Reese believes the character continues to resonate because her story is about much more than fashion and romance.

"It's an iconic character," Reese said. "It's really a feminist character."

She explained that while Elle initially believes her journey is about following a boyfriend to law school, the story ultimately becomes one of self-discovery and resilience.

"She thinks it's about this guy and following him to college, but it's really a story of being an underdog and a fish out of water in a place where she doesn't feel welcome."

The actress added that the character's determination and optimism remain universally relatable. "I think everybody has that feeling at one point in their lives."

Bringing Elle back for a new generation

Reese also shared her excitement about introducing the beloved character to younger audiences through the upcoming Elle prequel series, which will explore the future lawyer's teenage years.

"I just thought, why not start and make her a character for young women nowadays?" she said.

Reflecting on the pressures facing younger generations, Reese added: "I looked at what's going on with young girls, and I just think they need a better role model." With a smile, she concluded: "So it was time to bring Elle Woods back."
