Today Show faces major on-air shake-up leaving Jenna Bush Hager stunned: 'Are you ok'

Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones were faced with an incident on the August 28 episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.

During the opening segment, the hosts walked into shot when a clang could be heard in the background and the camera appeared to wobble before it cut to a different angle. "Are you okay over there?" asked Jenna. Sheinelle then let out a subtle laugh.

A man then shouted from off camera to confirm that all was ok. "I was going to try to just [keep going]," said Sheinelle. "We should keep going! [But] we got to show what just happened. Don't take us off. Keep us on the air," said Jenna.

Jenna then explained that "unfortunately" their coworker had suffered an accident behind-the-scenes. "He was walking backwards. This is the hazard of the job. And he ran into that chair," she said. "Now, the good news is, if you go back, I think our shot was pretty steady."

The hosts and the crew then proceeded to clap for the cameraman as he appeared on screen. "You almost fell backwards, and yet you kept that camera [still]," said Jenna, as Sheinelle added: "No one missed a beat. But it makes me realize that... am I missing a chip? Because we were going to keep this show going."

 "I just wanted to make sure he didn't injure himself. Meanwhile, I'm like, 'Get up! Let's go!' No, I'm just kidding," Jenna told viewers. "But anyway it just shows you how hard our crew works around here every single day. And they also put up with all of our antics, which are real annoying," she concluded.

Sheinelle made her debut as Jenna's permanent co-host for Today's 4th Hour on January 12. The big day came six years after she first joined Today's 3rd Hour and one year after the morning show landscape changed.

In early 2025, the 4th Hour with Hoda & Jenna became TODAY with Jenna & Friends following Hoda Kotb's emotional departure from the long-running program.

Away from the show, Sheinelle released her debut book, Through Mom's Eyes, on April 14. The concept of the book, a collection of stories and lessons from the mothers of the likes of Lady Gaga, Stephen Curry, the Williams sisters, Matthew McConaughey and more, was first crafted in 2020, but ultimately delayed after the author's husband Uche Ojeh's fatal cancer battle.
