Katy Perry made an ultra-rare comment about her split from Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom, whom she dated for nine years and was preparing to marry.
The couple began dating in 2016, and briefly split a year later before reuniting in 2018 and getting engaged. They welcomed a daughter, Daisy Dove, in 2020, but their romance ended in 2025, with their team confirming the split in early July.
Saying goodbye to Orlando
The songstress shared that 2025 was a "really hard" year following her breakup, as her album, 143, was critically panned and less successful than her previous projects.
Katy shared that despite her breakup with Orlando, she had no regrets about their time together. "I wouldn't have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn't really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?" she told People.
"I had to let it go so I could move forward. I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece – then it showed up." She added that being on tour while dealing with the breakup was "probably the hardest time".
"My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away. But then my angels went to work. They really showed up," she said, referring to the moment that she met former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

True love with Justin
The pair were spotted on a dinner date in Montreal, Canada, during one of her tour stops in July 2025, and two days later, he was seen at her show.
"I learned how to step back into my purpose, and I got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life," she told the publication. "I got to meet Justin on tour, and then things shifted."
Katy explained that she had manifested their romance when she wrote down a list of things she wanted in August 2025.
"Number 10 just says, 'True Love.' And I think that's where we're at," she said. The "Teenage Dream" star added that Justin was endlessly supportive of her and cheered her on from the crowd at several of her shows.
"He knows the words, he's supportive, and he's in awe; it's super healing," she shared. "He is really heart-centered, and I think that we align in that way. I'm so grateful."
Katy and Orlando's split appears to have been amicable, and the pair were spotted enjoying a day out on a yacht in Australia with their daughter and the actor's son, Flynn, in July 2025.
Orlando broke his silence on the end of their nine-year relationship in an interview on Today, sharing that he was "so grateful" for their time together.
"We have the most beautiful daughter," he said. "When you leave everything on the field…I feel grateful for all of it. We're great. We're going to be great. Nothing but love."
