Dancing with the Stars finally kicked off with an explosive set of eight performances for the episode "Premiere: Night One."
On September 15, the 35th season of the dancing competition aired on ABC, with returning judges Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba already sparking discourse over lift critiques, effusive judging, and apparently, name mix-ups.

Derek Hough's "Tyler" and "Dylan" mix-up
After watching the episode play out, some fans quipped whether Derek had confused Tyler with season 34 finalist Dylan Efron, and found it hilarious all the same.
"That was weird re him being called Dylan!" one fan commented online, with another saying: "Omg I thought I was hearing things?? I was so confused lmao."
A third added: "Thank you I was waiting for someone else to catch that!" and a fourth joked: "Considering neither of them could keep their butts tucked in when they started dancing in hold, I don't ENTIRELY blame him."

The premiere episode had the eight couples with male celebrities take to the ballroom floor first, with the remaining eight pairs with female celebrities dancing on September 16.
Harry Shum Jr. and pro Jenna Johnson currently lead the scoreboard with a 21 out of 30 for their Cha-cha. Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach followed closely with a 20 out of 30 for their Tango.
The other safe couples include Tyler and Sharna (17 out of 30), Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold (16 out of 30), Taylor Hanson and Britt Stewart (16 out of 30), and Jackson Olson and Emma Slater (15 out of 30). Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson were safe as well, although with the lowest scores of the night, a 10 out of 30.

Eventually, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Conner Leavitt couldn't replicate his wife Whitney's success from the previous season.
His Salsa to Tag Team's "Whoomp! (There It Is)" with Adele Zaikman, the show's newest pro, landed with a 12 out of 30. And by the end of the night, he became the first contestant eliminated.

On September 16, the second half of couples will take to the stage. The performing celebrities include Amber Glenn, Ciara Miller, Giada De Laurentiis, Jenna Dewan, Julia Stiles, Maura Higgins, Sarah Jane Nader and Tatyana Ali.
Per this year's premiere theme, each contestant is dancing to a song that topped one of Billboard's charts the year they were born. We're going as far back as 1970's "Venus" by Shocking Blue, and as recent as 2005's "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson.
