Three years after her youngest child faced a health scare, Hoda Kotb is opening up about life and her concerns for her daughter, Hope.
Talking to USA Today, the former Today host said she's "constantly" in a state of worry over her daughter who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2023.
Hoda confessed: "Everyone's got something," but added: "I worry about my youngest daughter, who has diabetes. I am concerned. I go to sleep, I watch my phone all night to see what her numbers are doing. I wake up and see. That's just constant. That is how it is."
The symptoms which sent her to hospital
At the time of Hope's diagnosis, Hoda took a considerable amount of time away from Today to focus on family.
Hope's "flu-like" symptoms landed her in hospital as medical professionals worked to find out the cause.
But Hoda insists she's maintaining positivity when it comes to caring for Hope and her older sister, Haley too.
The 62-year-old said: "I can go in there and do a breathwork [session' and release everything I’m carrying. And now I go back to Hope and Haley, tank full, let's go.
"But we're all caring for someone who needs a lot of stuff, or we're going through life stuff, and I just feel like get on your knees and then go climb the mountain!"
Hoda only confirmed Hope's diabetes diagnosis when she returned to Today after leaving her hosting gig.
Why Hoda Kotb left Today
In 2025, when she revealed plans to launch her lifestyle venture, Joy 101, she spoke about her decision to leave the show after seven years as anchor.
Hoda shared that she had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after being briefly hospitalized during the family emergency in 2023, elaborating on her need to be there increasingly for her daughter "definitely weighing in" on her decision to leave NBC.
"As anyone with a child who has Type 1 (knows), especially a little kid, you're constantly watching, you're constantly monitoring, you're constantly checking, which is what I did all the time when I was (at TODAY)," she told TODAY.com. "You're distracted."
Later, while speaking with her former colleagues Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, she explained that Hope's condition allowed her to reassess her "priority" rankings in life, leading to her pivotal decision to leave TODAY.
"You just get a priority check in your life," Hoda detailed. "I can be here and sweating what's happening to Hope in the morning and in the night, or I can be there and feel relief that I can see."
